For anyone who happened to stumble across this blog that isn’t a friend or family member (or for those friends and family members that I have regretfully not been keeping in touch with as well as I should):
This is me (at a Red Sox game with my lovely girlfriend). I am Nate, a 21 year old student at Washington and Lee University with a declared major in Spanish, a declared minor in Latin American & Caribbean Studies, and plans to add a Business Administration major and a minor in Poverty & Human Capability Studies. So, to enhance my education in these fields I have decided to study for a semester at la Universidad del Pacífico in Peru. Also, I got a scholarship from W&L’s Shepherd Poverty Program to do a 240-hour internship in Peru with an an NGO called Mujeres para la Acción (Women for Action), where I will be working one-on-one with women to help them develop business and managerial skills that will allow them to run a successful business.
Although I’m sure to be hard at work for much of the trip, there will still be plenty of time for fun, too! I’ll be making trips to Iquitos, the largest city in the world that’s inaccessible by road, Cusco and Machu Picchu, and Huacachina, where I will hopefully go sandboarding!
All in all, I am very excited for the trip and I hope I can carve out plenty of time to update the blog with my thoughts and pictures from Peru!
